Urologists go through the same training all doctors do. First, they need a four year degree from a college or university. Then, they go to medical school for four years. Next, they have internship. Then undergo 2 years of general surgery and 4 years of urology proper to complete a residency. That’s six years of additional training at a hospital.
Some urologists further train by undergoing a fellowship. With that, they learn about a particular type of urology. They could do a fellowship in urologic oncology, for example, to learn to treat cancers of the urinary tract.
This a video featuring the life of a resident urologist in training at the National Kidney and Transplant 2021. As the lyrics of the background song depicts, even with the difficulties, challenges, numerous duties, surgeries and pandemic, nothing is impossible as long as teamwork and dedication to help patients exist.
